Chino Hills Residents Protect Their Properties from Santa Ana Wind Storms?

Our local Chino/Chino Hills wants everyone to be prepared for windstorms. The Chino Hills website offers high wind warning information to help residents take actions to prevent wind damage as follows:

High Winds Safety Rules

  • Stay safe and prepare for high winds 
  • Postpone outdoor activities until winds die down
  • Use handrails when available walking outdoors 
  • Avoid elevated areas such as roofs
  • Watch for flying debris (tree limbs may break and become loose during strong wind gusts)
  • Watch out while walking under balconies as loose objects may fall
  • Lower all outdoor umbrellas and secure any outdoor seat cushions 
  • Secure lightweight outdoor patio furniture 
  • IN AN EVENT OF A DOWNED POWER LINE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FREE LINES YOURSELF, CALL 9-1-1 

Before

  • Conduct a home safety evaluation, including the garage door and nearby trees
  • Secure or store away any loose items outside

During

  • If you are outdoors, move into a building. Avoid downed electrical power lines, utility poles and trees
  • If you are driving, pull off the road and stop away from trees. Avoid overpasses, power lines and other hazards
  • Turn off the stove if you are cooking when the power goes out and turn off natural gas appliances

After

  • Evacuate damaged buildings
  • If the power goes out, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to keep food frozen for up to two days
