Broken Pipe Water Damage
4/13/2020 (Permalink)
Even the cleanest of water from the newest of pipes could be considered detrimental to your home in the event of a loss. We call clean water losses “Category 1”. This includes water from supply lines or faucets. Typically, there is no contaminants present. If your Chino / Chino Hills home experiences a flood or leak, here is what you need to know.
Water can become contaminated with time
Just because water starts clean and unpolluted does not mean it will stay that way long. In fact, mold can begin to grow within 24 to 48 hours. The water may come into contact with pollutants and environmental hazards the longer it sits. Category 1 water may very quickly become Category 2 (mildly contaminated) or even 3 (grossly polluted).
Water creates a hazardous situation
Not only can water carry dangerous pollutants, it can also cause slips and falls. Additionally, water is an excellent conductor for electricity. If there is an electrical hazard near the water, stay away from the affected area and shut the power to your home off.
Water is destructive
The longer your leak or flood is left unattended, the more damage it will cause. Water can seep into walls, floors, and furniture causing structural damage and mold.
Even without the threats of Categories 2 and 3 are not present in Category 1, any water damage is bad water damage. SERVPRO of Chino / Chino Hills is here to help you day or night, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
